Monster Mash - Prop Asset Artist

10/05/2024

During my time on the 'Professional Awareness' module at university, I had the amazing opportunity to work with a team of  masters students in a team called Monster Mash who are developing a third-person action/shooter game called 'Phantom Paws' for the Nintendo Switch.

My role on the team was to produce and texture 3D models to populate the in game environments while maintaining the project's high standard of quality and requirements.

Requirements:
Since the project is due to release on the Switch objects must have conservative polygon counts. Additionally, as much lighting detail should be baked onto the base-colour map of the textures as possible, so these lighting calculations do not have to be performed at runtime.

Telescope
This model of a telescope is used in the game's first level which is set in a library. It features shadows baked onto the texture map which can be examined by isolating the base-colour material channel in Sketchfab. The asset used substance painter for a high to low poly bake and texturing.

Target Dummies
The target dummies are rigged to provide animations for when the player attacks them. To accompany this I created an animator controller and script to take the impact direction and convert it to a vector which is used to blend 4 animations for each direction together.

Shield
I also worked on some shader effects while working on the project, including the shield bubble which is shown over the player when they pick up a power-up which protects them from enemy attacks.
