Hotel Elysium

Hotel Elysium is a short story based game produced for the UOG Game Jam 2024 lasting only 3 days. The player takes the role of a 'Bellhop' at the Hotel Elysium which is located in purgatory, and work to prove where they belong in the afterlife.

The game was developed in Unity and has 3 endings 5 quests and over 100 voice acted lines of dialogue.

Hotel Elysium won the UOG Gam Jam 2024 and was awarded with "Best Indie Game" at the University of Gloucestershire's game development event COMX.

Gameplay

The main objective of the gain is the complete quests throughout the hotel and earn tips so they can leave into the afterlife. Depending on how a player approaches a quest they will earn positive or negative karma which will affect where they go at the end of the game.

The game is heavily focused on the interactions with the spirits that inhabit Hotel Elysium, with exclusive content depending on the actions of the player, encouraging replaying the game.

Dialogue

The dialogue system was developed in the first day to achieve the goals set for the project. Users can create sets of interactions and assign audio clips to play alongside them, as well as any events they want to occur when the dialogue is called and methods can be called to change the accessed interaction set depending on the state of the game for branching storys.

Animation

For this project I used unity's animation and director/sequencer tools to create animations with sound and particle effects as well as script signals to create entertaining sequences throughout the game.
